 t's Official! Night Elves are in! A recent announcement on the official WOW website has confirmed what many have been praying for: the Night Elves will in fact be a playable race! Along with this new announcement came several new screenshots depicting the Night Elf characters, their towns, and their homeland. Most aspects of the Night Elf appearance stays true to their form from Warcraft 3: tall, slender, pale, and pointy eared. But one aspect of their appearance immediately stands out.
During the night their eyes glow a bright yellow. Whether this is purely cosmetic or a sign that the night elves retain their night time vision bonus is unclear, but seeing nothing more than two glowing eyes coming at you in a PvP area is sure to affect gameplay either way =). Also, some screenshots depicting this feature also show other Night Elf characters whose eyes are not glowing, so whether players will be able to enable/disable this feature or have to spend skill points to attain it is unclear.
Their towns and surrounding lands also stay true to form. Treehouses and other tree-type dwellings make up the towns, some of which seem to be whole towns inhabiting a single, very large tree. The Night Elf homeland is also what one might expect. Almost all screenshots containing Night Elves show them in thick, dark, mist-filled forests. These locations vary from vine entangled jungle-like surroundings to a more mundain pine forrest type setting. Although somewhat similar, the subtle differences in the shown locations give them each a very unique feeling, but one thing that seems to unite them is their dark, misty feel.
